MacBook Pro Hard Drive Replacement

2:39 pm in Mac/Apple by webhank

img 0092 150x150 MacBook Pro Hard Drive ReplacementSo I accidentally let a TV fall on my MacBook Pro last night – and not a light, modern, flat-panel TV, but a heavy ass old-school CRT TV.  When I tried to boot it after gravity played her evil trick on me, all i got was a flashing folder icon with a question mark in it.  I tried some tricks to get the machine to recognize the hard drive, all to no avail. I could hear the drive clicking but not spinning, and the TV did fall on the portion of the laptop where the hard drive lies, so I decided to try my hand at replacing the hard drive.  A trip to Best Buy and I had a 320GB hard drive in hand and a quick viewing of this video…and things seem to be on track. Ignore the awful music selection. If you’re crunched for time, watch this video instead…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhNPchwhQoc&NR=1

Tomorrow I will try and re-install the OS, but the computer recognized the drive and allowed me to partition it, so I am not overly concerned. I anticipate that the re-install will go fairly smoothly – but I will post updates. This new drive will give me 200GB more space so maybe once this is all over with it will end up being a good thing.

I just downloaded the iPhone/Wordpress app and wanted to test it out. I am very curious about how it handles photos so here is one totally un-related to this post.

3 idiots look for a plane

10:29 am in Outdoors by webhank

So yesterday two friends and I went out looking for an airplane that wrecked in the Indian Peaks Wilderness back in the early ’70′s.  A fresh dousing of snow to the area (and PERHAPS a bit of bad route finding on my part) means that, at least by the three of us, the wreck remains un-discovered.  Of course a day in the “wilderness” with friends is never all bad, even if the objective for the day remains “on the list”.

cha ching!

well the GoLite sale was a phenominal sucess.  Chad and I weathered the rain for two hours and waited in line – there were some amazing deals to be had.  I am very stoked to try out my new Adrenaline 40°.  1lb 4oz.  I am hoping with a nice down jacket and perhaps some puff ball pants i can stretch it to a “right at freezing” bag.

I will definitely be making this an annual “must do”.

Go Lite Semi-Annual Warehouse Sale

11:31 am in Misc, Outdoors by webhank

We’ve decided to camp out for the Go Lite sale.  Sometime this evening Chad and I are going to drive over to the warehouse and camp out.  In 34 years, I’ve never done anything like this…so it should be fun, albeit, admittedly geeky.  I might have to pick up a new book to read this evening.

Paul and Emily indicated they might participate in the absurdness of it all – could be fun.

here’s a link http://www.golite.com/sale/default.htm

Maybe I will post “live photos”.
